EI for Tmax 400 in Xtol?

I don't even use meters. I literally don't even know how I'm exposing my film. I guess I fail photography.

No! No! No! You don't fail photography at all. You only fail Meter Reading 101 and that's NOT a required course for your major in photography. If YOU like your results then that's all that counts and you pass with flying colors.

The lessons learned will vary from person to person, but in every case ... [testing] helps them pay attention to something that it is good to be familiar with.

I support MattKing's thoughts on the purpose of testing...

When it comes to EI for TMAX 400, 250 is where I set my meter.

If you want to shoot it at 400, that's its real speed so go ahead.

800-1600 is fine if you like the aesthetic of pushed black and white film.
