efke r100 push processing advice in rodinal

hi

i am looking to push process a few rolls of 127 r100 2-3 stops, so any advise on dilution and times would be most handy.
i gather that with rodinal you can dilute the developer to increase shadow detail but have never tried this.

Jonathan, The easiest way to learn, is to try a test roll. There are many variables, not the least of which is the camera you're using (assuming Baby Rollei), and results you are looking for.

Experience is the best teacher.

Digitaltruth has times for Efke and Rodinal. Use them as a starting point.

Maybe someone in the forum over at 127 Photography has some more ideas.

you may want to try rodinal 1+200 stand or semi stand for about 1 hour to cope with the variety of exposuures you'd get.

I really would not want to push Efke R100 in Rodinal. In fact, one of the reasons I quit processing Efke R100 from my Yashica 44-LM in Rodinal (I was using 1+50) is that I didn't think I was even getting a true 100-speed result; I think the real speed of R100 in Rodinal is maybe more like 64. Many films don't give full speed in Rodinal. For EI 100, I settled on HC-110, dilution B (1+31 from the US syrup) for about 5:30 to 6:00, which I liked a lot better--more shadow detail and less grain.

For higher EI's, I figured that DD-X 1+4 for 7:30 should be about right for EI 200, and would probably give decent shadow detail. For EI 400 you might try DD-X 1+4 for 9:00, and for EI 800 you might try around 11:00, but these are really guesses.

All data is for 68 deg. F / 20 deg. C, Paterson tank with gentle inversion agitation, and an Aristo cold light head with a V54 tube.

Rodinal is not the best choice for push processing. A better choice would be Acufine or Microphen. These developers will produce greater speed while not producing excess contrast.

I've not pushed Efke 100, but I have pushed Efke 25 after I accidentally shot a couple of sheets at 100 (forgot to reset the meter :rolleyes: )

IIRC, instead of my normal Rodinal 1+100 for 18 minutes, I left it in for something like 28 minutes. The results were quite acceptable, even the shadow areas had detail.

From my brief playing around, and reading up on pushing TriX in Rodinal, the key is using a high dilution like 1+100 and not agitating too much - one inversion every three or five minutes.
