Walter,
I don't have any precise directions for use with D-76, since I use Rodinal and Efke PL with Jobo processor.
However, I find that a 5 min. presoak is essential. Also, in order to tame the contrast (and grain to a degree), I also use more diluted developer, compared to processing by hand, plus I cut on development time (about 10% shorter).
So, if for the same Efke film in 120 format (e.g. R100) I use Rodinal 1:50 for 10 minutes, then for the Efke PL100 I would use a presoak of 5 minutes, Rodinal diluted to 1:60, and the development time would be probably around 9 minutes.
My general advice would be to cut the development time, and perhaps try a more diluted developer, if the initial results are still more dense and contrasty than what you aim for.
As always, YMMW...
