Rumor has it that Efke 400 is Ilford's HP-5 with a different box; I don't know for sure. If you go to either/both digitaltruth.com or unblinkingeye.com, you can find dev times for HP-5 in Rodinal.

How about just making some tests? You never know, it could work!

Yes, I'd read a year or so ago, that the 400 speed was HP5+ repackaged. If there were a true 400 Efke, that would be great.

Efke has announced a "real" Efke 400 - check their ad on this site. (The repackaged HP5+ must be long gone through the distribution chain by this point.) Rumor is that it is currently available locally (i.e., Croatia), but I don't know if that's true.

Thanks for the info, sounds promising. Will check out their site. Printed some 5x5 proofs yesterday of APX 400 in Studional (my APX standard developer), and the results reminded me of Efke.

Studional gives a really fine grain, and beautiful tones. I highly recommend trying it.

I think it's far more likely it is (or was) repackaged Ilford Pan400. The Panxxx-films are similar to the "main product line" PanF+, FP4+ and HP5+, but not identical.

According to information picked up in Ilford's warehouse, that is...

Efke 400 is definetly cutted and repackaged Ilford HP5+. I have seen original boxes with declaration, when they arrived to Fotokemika. Couple weeks later I get some films from this batch. This Efke film was made for export. I think that it might not be available more.
As soon I get some news about new Efke 400, I will report.

The film sold right now is HP5 that Fotokemika has been selling for years in parts of Europe. They were cut off from Ilford raw material like everyone else after the restructuring. The material in question is probably 4-5 years old and has been sitting on the shelf. Any differences you may notice to fresh HP5 are the result of this.
