Hello All,

Does anyone have any starting time/temp recommendations for this film/developer combo using semi-stand development? The technique I'm thinking is: 2-3 minute presoak, agitation for the first minute followed by 10 secs of agitation every 3 minutes thereafter. Water stop. Standard hardening fixer. I'll probably have to stay at slightly higher dev temps--75 degrees--as the water in my area exits the tap at about 82 degrees for much of the year.

I would be pleased to hear of any development technique suggestions, too, for this combo. In general, I've found Efke 25 to be much too contrasty for my taste; though this is no different than any other very slow emulsion that I've tried in the past like Ilford PanF. Therefore, I'm thinking a semi-stand development technique will provide a compensating effect, thereby controlling the overall contrast. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all for this GREAT community.

I have really good luck exposing it at 25 and using 09 1+100 for 18 minutes at 68F with the agitation as you describe. I keep on bottle of distilled water in the fridge and one out in the room and mix them to temp.

If your going 75F the time is probably going to be in the vicinity of 13 minutes.
There's only one way to find out. Do it! and Good Luck!

Is r09 diffrent from rodinal?

Well, I guess it depends on how you look at it... R09 is reportedly the pre-war formulation of Rodinal. It's my understanding that Agfa made some formula changes over the years; therefore, R09 and Agfa Rodinal are not exactly the same developer. Are they significantly different enough to cause changes to development? Dunno.

To asa25 - got a strip of Efke 25 developed in R09 per your suggested time/temp drying in the bathroom. A quick look at the wet negs makes me believe they're darn close to what I'm looking for. What a start! Thanks!

This thread, started when I reported on a test of Rodinal vs R09
(there was a url link here which no longer exists) might answer some of your questions.

Thanks, Lee. I just read through the thread you referenced, and found some useful info. It's certainly way to early for me to tell much of anything about R09, yet, but I'm very pleased with my first attempt today with Efke 25 and R09 at 1:100. The negs look pretty darn good through my loupe!
