My house has a septic system, so I'm necessarily careful about what goes down the drain. Processes such as carbon (which I'd very much like to learn) and even simple gelatin silver toning with IT-8 toner (ditto) involve dichromates that must be washed out.
Is there a washing regimen that will completely clear the dichromate stain with a minimum of water, an amount that's feasible for me to capture and dispose of properly? A gallon or two is manageable, 20 gallons is not. I'm aware of using Ascorbic acid to reduce the Cr6+ to Cr3+, but at the end of the day it's still chromium and I don't want it in my septic system.
