I notice that the edge markings on 35mm Ilford film have changes slightly, if you look closely, to a more "computer" typeface.

Is this the result of the 'new' Agfa perforating / edge marking machine?

Also, amusingly, does this mean Ilford can easily apply any message they like now, by typing it into a computer?

If so I was wondering if we could have things like: "You underexposed them, you idiot"; or, for special occasions, "Happy Birthday" etc

Matt

"If you can see this, you didn't mix up fixer and developer again"

How about "I wish that I could have been 8x10 sheet film"?

"This film will explode in 5 seconds. 5.....4.....3....2.....1.....BOOM! Gotcha."

I don't know about an Agfa machine perforating/marking machine at Ilford. However there is an Agfa machine using an LED-matrix exposing via glass-fibers. Thus in principle any text can be sent to that matrix for exposure.

Yes - they bought one of the liquidator and were still setting it up when we went there for the visit last summer.

An extraordinary looking piece of kit.

Dear All,

Yes we now write by fibre optics, very neat, and yes we can write anything...but we won't....

Oh go on Simon - just think of the fun you could have .... you could print "HIE" or "Verichrome Pan" (insert any other discontinued yet badly missed film) if you wanted to really mess with people's minds.

One of the more interesting things could be to put the date the film was manufactured, as well as the batch number on the rebate.

This is especially relevant with bulk loaded film that has been sitting in a loader for some time and you have no batch number record.

Mick.

hey Mick you beat me to this! owning a lab I'de really like to know what date the film was from and the batch number!!! this would be super helpful info.
