My general rule of thumb is not to buy any item listed in "excellent" condition - these are generally overpriced. I usually buy items with minor cosmetic issues where the sellers appear to have responsibly described the issues. I have been pleasantly surprised by many of my purchases of less than excellent camera equipment.

To the post above... a 100 year old item in "excellent condition" will almost certainly have more cosmetic flaws than a 1 year old item in "excellent condition". The term is subjective so the key is to read the description and examine the images.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, advice is needed.
I have sold a few films on ebay. I have shipped them to the address provided by ebay, and provided the buyer with the tracking number. USPS have tried to deliver the package to him on June the 22nd and they had left a notification as there was nobody there.
Now the buyer came back to me telling me that he wants me to send it back to him to another address once the package gets back to me. I have told him that once I get it back he will have to pay again for the postage to get it shipped again back to him.
He has gone rampant and now he asks for a full refund. Once I get the package back I am willing to refund him with just the cost of the item, but he insists on a full refund.
What are the odds as a seller to get justified by ebay on this?

Contact Ebay Support to make them aware of his rant; you as a seller have rights also - not your fault that he requested it be sent to an incorrect address. By giving them a heads up, hopefully you can squash *any* negative feedback. You can "talk" to someone directly via their Online Chat service - have used this several times and you get a full transcript of the conversation sent to you once all completed.

I've used them before for non-paying bidders and such, they were very helpful.

No problem; as a side note, I have noted that quite a few sellers will only ship to the registered *PayPal* address, could be something to explore next time, noted in the listing description; that way anyone who wants it delivered to another address can provide the new address details with their payment information.

Personally I don't restrict quite so much, but just had a buyer pay and his Ebay registered address actually differed from his Paypal. Luckily I noticed or it would have ended up at the *wrong* address.

I myself only ship to the address that comes up when I buy postage through eBay.

I don't think shipping to a different has come up, but if it does I say I only ship as I stated above, and if they want it going to a different address then update their info on their eBay account.

I've had especially bad luck with camera equipment on ebay. probably 20% has significant faults. Last one was an "Excellent" pentax 645 lens with an immovable aperture lever. I didn't notice until a roll of velvia came back clear. I've never had anyone refuse a refund though. I don't think it's malicious.

Be careful about shipping to a buyers unregistered address. If you comply and something goes awry you can lose your seller protections from scammers.

Recently, I sold a small item to a buyer's 'registered' address. Oddly, he had changed it temporarily to the hotel he was staying at. The item didn't arrived at his hotel before he checked out and left. He was upset with me claiming I failed to meet the allowed shipping time... and now he doesn't have what he needs for his overseas trip. I explained to him the postal carrier picked up the item the same day he paid for it and I can't be any quicker than that. He said he left a forwarding address with the hotel and he'll see what happens. I wonder if he expects the hotel to pay for overseas shipping. This is strange behavior on several levels that I'm sure you can all recognize. I called eBay to report the issue and pointed them to the internal messages. I was assured they won't allow anything but positive feedback nor will they allow a return/refund because the delivery issue was the buyer's fault.

The point to the above paragraph is... some people are not well versed on how eBay, PayPal and shipping services operate. Some of those people can also be very illogical and unreasonable. Call eBay and explain the problem so you'll be on record regarding all you've done to be an excellent seller.

You sent it to his "official" address, I think that lets you off the hook. The USPS holds mail at the PO and I think two more notices are left. If they're on vacation or have their mail on hold, it'll be at the office until he/she/it returns.
It's the buyers responsibility to pick it up isn't it?
