I've seen PE comment on various threads when other films come up that Kodak and Fuji have the best dye stability and will fade slower than other brands (Ferrania, Lucky, Agfa).
If we take a typical modern Kodak or Fuji film and do not use stabiliser (formaldehyde) how long before the dye starts to degrade? At what point is it significant?
Would it make a difference to improved longetivity if we bathed our most precious negatives or slides we wish to preserve as the original negatives or slides (no scanning or duplicating etc) in a stabiliser bath every six or twelve months? Or would it have no effect?
Also, what would be the easiest, simplest way to simulate aging to examine how the dye fades for 10, 20, 30 years etc? ie: concentrate some sunlight through the film for a few hours vs keeping in a clear negative holders in a folder for a few decades?
