Dust formed in my Fixer bottle.

Today I was surprised when I found out there was a black dust formed in my fixer mix. I have being using it for about 2 months but it was working fine...

Does anybody know what is that black thing? It has made my last developed negative more noisy. Kind of cool look, I like it.

you get chunks of silver in the fixer after a while (from removing unnecessary silver from the negative). It forms inside the bottle and flakes into the liquid, or stays in the liquid. The silver tarnishes to dark gray/black.

You can strain it out with a coffee filter. Test your fixer to make sure it's still good before wasting time with mostly used up fixer.

If you use the same fixer for film and paper, don't. You can get paper fibers into the fixer which will get onto the film.

Great thorough answer! I have learned something by it as well! Thanks for this response!

I would add that you should be able to find approximately how much film can be fixed from a mix. I don't like to trust that and never use fixer for film for more than a month and for paper I use two fixer baths but only for one session. My philosophy is that the chemistry is the least costly item in the process and the best results come from consistency of method and fresh chemistry.

Is this you? Well, whomever it is, the look in the eye's is very intense, kind of reminds me of Rasputin, most like due to the beard, but the eye's say something as well!

I kind of enjoy theses aleatory noises on the image. I don't know why but it feels more rustic and artesian.

Thank you very much, I appreciate your thoughts very much! The results were by my inexperience with film, Polaroids, and my Epson V500 photo scanner! The double exposure was strictly accidental!

Really? I thought you like to play with double exposure like I do:

I didn't at first but after a few mistakes I just went with it! I couldn't load my Roller 6008 pro with the Polaroid back with fujifims correctly but the results looked cool plus I learned what double exposure was back then! This mistake carried over when I ended up with the Mamiya RB Pro S unfortunately but fortunate as well since these results looked really cool! When I tried to make a double exposure to use I ended up with a proper exposure! I guess I kept removing the white fujifilms strip in the wrong order! Over all it was fun and aided my learning experiences! Have a good day and happy photography! -americo
