I posted a thread a week or so ago about setting my Durst m605 with a condenser head.
I've just received a Sirioneg 50 which I waiting on before I could start printing. Before opening the package I could hear something moving inside, not good presumably.
Opened it up and the condenser lens is separate from the metal box and the lens appears to have an internal crack near the edge. My guess is that it had a hard drop in transit.
A couple of photos of the piece here: https://imgur.com/a/Q6VhglH
I'm guessing the condenser should really be sitting under those opposite tabs.
Do you think it's worth trying to get this reseated? The tabs feel fairly solid and I'd rather not do more damage. Is the damage to lens likely to be a big issue during print
Should I just send it back and try to get a refund?
That's about what I expected.
I won't have trouble finding another, hopefully better packaged. I was looking forward to doing some printing though, the lamp for the colour head went over the weekend. Sods law.
I do not see a crack. But I see a mark where a piece of glass has ben chipped off. I assume at a location that is covered by the fixture and not used in ray forming.
I agree with AgX, that the chip looks like it may be out of the way enough to not cause a problem. But, you'd need to finish setting it up to test. If they are reasonably common, sending it back and getting a good one in your hands might be a preferable solution.
I had similar damage to a Leica 50mm f/2 Summicron; I took some flat black paint and blacked out (filled) the chipped area and used the lens for another 15 years with no noticeable effects. Of course, the lens was more like an f/2.2 wide open but the chip/damage did not affect image quality upon close examination. You might give this solution a try and see if the lens is usable.
After getting home I took the whole thing apart and reseated the glass and fitted it. The crack is below the surface of the glass, like a bubble. It does seem to sit underneath one of the tabs, so hopefully shouldn't be a problem.
I didn't get round to printing yesterday, but to my eye it doesn't seem to show up when the lamp is on. I'll spend an evening this week doing some printing and see how I get on with it.
