I have always wanted to develope my own prints. I bought a Rondinax 35U tank. This weekend I walked into a Goodwill store and for $15 walked out with a Durst M601 with the CLS 66 color head with operating bulb, came with a El Nikkor 50mm f4. Found a manual online. The only thing missing was the filter drawer. The Question is:- Do you need the filter drawer on can I just mask over the opening?

I think I may have a spare filter drawer in the UK. You don't really need one with the CLS66 head, so as you & Vaughn say tape over it. When I'm next in the UK I'll be moving / dismantling my darkroom and I'm sure I know where it is so if I remember I'll contact you and stick it in the post.

The 601 is a great enlarger, I had 2, the first had very heavy use in a commercial darkroom, I was going to rebuild it and it was in bits, but moved abroad and sent it to landfill, it was quite corroded, and had been rebuilt once before.. But I kept a few bits like the neg carrier, filter drawer, bellows etc which are OK. The others in mothballs.

Thanks for the info. Cleaned it up last night. In great condition. Did find out I need to plug the hole where the red filter goes. I also found out I have the lens board for the 75mm lens. Do I need to get the recessed mount for the 50mm?

hi

i have the same enlarger ...
i use a recessed mount for a 50 ( and the same mount for a 90 )
mainly because it is what the enlarger came with

u can just use a piece of fabric or anything really to block off the light
from the filter drawer.
i enlarge glass plates without my negative carrier and use a big piece of plastic taped
to the enlarger to shield off the light. before that it was a ripped piece of jeans.

have fun!
