Hi All,

Just bought a Durst 54 enlarger with 135mm f5.6 Schneider - Kreuznach Componon lens for £10. I know nothing about this enlarger and just assumed it was fine for 5x4 negs.....problem is there no neg holder.

Anyone know anything about these enlargers? Anyone have a neg carrier going spare or where I can get one?

Thanks in advance.

Tony

I happen to have the Nega 138 that will do 5x7 with glassless 35mm mask pm if interested

if its one of the laborator enlargers such as 1000 or L1200 then you need a "femoneg".
google it. Then you need the format inserts of the film size you want to print from which fit into the femoneg film carrier. Or you can use glass inserts.

northern photo or nova darkroom may have some of these format inserts. You'll probably have to get a femoneg off the auction site but try northern photo first.

It says Durst Laborator 54 Repro Universal Camera??

So some confusion as to whether its actually an enlarger in the fist place.

Sorry I don't know that model. I would suggest you phone Northern Photo. They are the durst service center. Speak to Terry. He knows a thing or two about durst kit. They have just moved premises and are in Leeds. Not too far from you I think.

Is it like this one?

Trond, its exactly like that. Cheers.
I picked it up this evening.
Came with two condensers (if thats what the big glass domes are called) and one 135mm f5.6 Schneider - Kreuznach Componon lens.
All seems to work fine apart from missing the neg carrier.

thats an oldie. I don't think a femoneg will fit that.

I've emailed NorthernPhoto. Fingers crossed they can suggest something.

Looks like a fantastic enlarger. I'm sure a solution can be found for the negative carrier.

A friend of mine owns a Laborator 54. I can ask him to take some pictures of the negative carrier if you wish. It might be easier to find if you know exactly what you are looking for.

Yes please Trond that would be very helpful.

Northern Photo couldn't help me out unfortunately.

The negative carrier frame holds sheet metal inserts (1 pair for each film format). The head with the lamp can be lowered after insertion of the carrier to block out extraneous light. I imagine that a complete carrier is going to be difficult to find considering the age. I have used a couple of sheets of glass instead of the carrier, so consider that alternative.

I think that you need either the OTONEG or TAUNEG carriers, as for the Laborator 1000. I don't think that the L138/S-45 carriers will fit...

Cheers,

-andrew

I just got the pictures of the Laborator 54 neg. carriers (35 mm and 9x12 cm).

Hi Trond,

Are those carriers or masks? They look way too thin for my enlarger unless they sit in a further holder/carrier that then sits in the enlarger head. Theres a gap of a bout 2.75cm for the carrier.
And its a solid head so doesnt flex to fit the carrier, it would just slide stright in.

I'll take some images a bit later of the enlarger.

Oh and thank your friend for me for the images.

Fingers crossed that Mr Cad in London can sort me out. They think they might have the holder I need. Same as the L1000 apparently.

Also noticed it missing its red filter.

Darn it.

Mr Cad sent me the neg carrier today for a grand total of $65/£42.
Should have known at that price I was asking for trouble.
I'd sent them images of the enlarger and neg carrier I thought I'd need so they sent me.......
