durst L1000/401 + Taucol cold light attachment

Hi all,

I've just been given a durst L1000 with a durst 401mkII colour head and also what I reckon is a taucol cold light attachment. I am missing a controller/power supply for the 401... (although I have the fan and fan PSU)

Heres the question: At this point I'm really more interested in B&W printing so will the cold light unit suffice for this? Also the lamp is missing from the cold light unit, could anyone point me to where I could get one? (or at least the right type/name for the lamp so I can search for it)

The unit looks great, seems to be built like a tank, very clean inside and out, I reckon it was never used at all. I did a bit of printing in college but that was years ago, I have forgotten nearly it all! However this is my ticket back in!

Lastly I should mention that I have a whole bunch of lenses/condensors (?) for it, such a pity that the last couple of bits were missing - probably chucked out!

Anyway, thanks for any help anyone may be able to give!

I use the Mark II color heads on my Durst L1000 for B&W printing. If you use VC paper, the filter settings are useful. For graded paper, either light source would work. I have a copy of the Durst Manual on my website.

You got condensors?

You could try asking Durst tech support if they know the proper bulb. They don't support the 1000 anymore but who knows.

I have the same setup, and use the taucola for b&w, as well as the condenser (not colour) head. I paid considerably more for mine though!

Good, so its not a complete piece of cr*p then?

I've emailed 2 local shops here about the lamp, so maybe one of them will turn up something. If anyone knows what to get, that would be great....

doughowk - Thanks for the manual - I have it printed out already! Now I need to do some serious reading on printing. I'll need to get basically everything: chemicals trays paper and so on. I'm lucky in that I have a room in my house that I can easily adapt to printing. Its all internal, no windows and just one door that I can seal easily enough. I also got a couple of safe lights with the enlarger so I think they should be OK although I haven't fired them up yet.

johnnywalker - do you have a timer or something that controls the taucola? Or do you just turn it on and off? I'm trying to figure out what I'm missing....

Is there a beginners guide to printing here somewhere?

No, it's a good enlarger. I don't have a timer, I just use a large wall clock that I can see with the safelight, and an off-on switch that's located on the cord.
I'm sure there's something here about printing for beginners, but can't find it. Someone with more experience than I have will jump in I'm sure.

Now for the missing lamp. It looks like it is a fairly standard ES thread on the ceramic holder in the taucola.... Johnnywalker you wouldn't be able to open up your sometime and have a look at the lamp and see if theres any info on it?

I seem to remember there is nothing written on the lamp, but if all else fails I'll take it apart and have another look. I had a look in the manual, but could find nothing specific about the lamp for the taucola. Hopefully someone will know off the top of their head. I'd also like to know what replacement to have on hand and where to get it.
