Durst 606 vs. Durst C35

Hi,
I'm trying to put together a small basic darkroom for 35mm. With regards to enlarges, I have two options. Durst 606 vs. Durst C35. Which would you recommend and most important, any pitfalls I should avoid.

I would opt for the 606 simply becuse it permits you to enlarge 6x6 negatives.

Before you buy read my post. There are a lot of Durst parts like lensboards etc that are hard to come by so take an inventory of all the necessary parts and accessories that come with either enlarger first. Also the lenses you plan to use and their size may be a factor too.

I agree w/ Dan, research the availability and expense of things like lens boards, neg carriers, etc on Dursts. I had a 606 and loved it, but I needed two different lens boards, one for 35mm and one for 120, and those things were difficult to find and almost as expensive as the enlarger. Those recessed boards won't let you use some lenses because you can't get to them to make adjustments.

The 606 is just too old. Unless it comes to you with every part and accessory you will require, it should be avoided because you are not going to find pieces for it anywhere now. The C35 was a rare effort by Durst to market a low cost enlarger for the entry level consumer market. It usually comes standard as a 35mm only format, although an accessory kit was sold toconvert it to 6x6cm format. You'd never find one of those kits now. Alternative - Consider an M600, Comes standard for 45mm and 6x6cm. It shares lens boards with several other, newer models and it is readily available (on ebay). It would be more expensive in the US, about $100 - 125. A much more long term unit compared to the C35. Also, if so inclined, it takes a colorhead which can still be found. If you want a 35mm only model, look at the M35. If you want 35mm and B&W only, look for an Omega B22,
