this is a really dumb question. I have a couple of used recessed lensboards of different sizes. The have the little trigger releases with the bent rod that trips the shutter. I expect that both are broken, because they don't work (at least as far as I can tell.) For instance the one on the wista recessed board that I just received, none of my cable releases screw in. There don't seem to be threads to catch anything. There is a red button on it that slides down (spring loaded) but it doesn't seem to do anything either. (i've tried sliding it down and inserting the release, but it doesn't catch or do anything useful.)

As I said, I expect both of these are just broken, but I've never used these things before, so maybe there is just something I don't understand about how they are supposed to work. I assumed the cable just screwed into the top that that was it.

Bump. Are my triggers just broken, or is there something I’m doing wrong?

Pictures would help. What you describe sounds to me like a Linhof Technika board with a "cable release socket", also called a "Cable Release Quicksocket" or "Quick Release Socket". The bent rod suggests an earlier version; Linhof now uses a sort of stubby flexible cable release like thingy between the cable release socket on the lens board and the cable release socket on the shutter.

BUT you say "wista recessed board". I know Wista uses Technika pattern boards so maybe their board's cable release socket is compatible with a cable release with this Linhof item screwed on the end: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=Linhof 41066&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=hist-ma

On Linhof Technika boards with the cable release socket you need to screw this nipple on the end of the cable release, then it will "latch" in to the board's cable release socket. The red button is used to release it. I see the are back-ordered at B&H.

Linhof Studio in England shows them on their website but doesn't say if they are in stock, see here: https://www.linhofstudio.com/products/Cable--Releases-Silvestri-Linhof/Linhof_Screw-on_Nipple_041066
I have always had good experience buying from Linhof Studio.

This includes a video showing how it works. You might also try Omega Brandess, Linhof distributor for the US or one of the US Linhof service centers for this screw-on nipple. Again I don't know that this will work with a Wista brand board (or a Chinese knock-off with their version of a quick release socket).

thanks for that. It is a technika style board, but the little crest says "wista" on it. That attachment makes sense since with a flashlight, I cant see any threads inside the trigger attachment on the board.
