Making my first trip to Duluth this weekend. I would love any suggestions of things to stop and photograph, or locations of camera shops and used book stores.
I already plan on stopping in Hibbing for ,"Dylan Days" and Cloquet to see the Frank Lloyd Wright gas station.
In Duluth, I have two specific suggestions to photograph.
1. Walk along the lakefront path from the vertical lift bridge out to maybe Leif Ericsson park.
2. The transportation museum (in the old Union Station) has an M3 Yellowstone 2-8-8-4 simple articulated locomotive (from the DM&IR), which had more tractive effort than the UP Big Boy 4-8-8-4.
I moved from Duluth to Chicago over 40 years ago. When people tell me it gets cold here, I tell them that they have no idea what cold is.
The North Shore is very nice, take it up to Gooseberry Falls. The drive reminds me of the Maine coast without the salt air. Iron World in Chisholm (next to Hibbing). You will be on the "Range" in Hibbing area, some of the old iron mines are interesting, just don't get close to the edge, long drop down.
