Dry Mounting With Out The Press

I came across this site: www.misterart.com .
He carries several products targeted to those
with paintings, prints, and such needing a mount.
Many are acid free and some claim archival quality.

Are there any using those types of mounting materials;
mounting without the press or heat? I see 3M has a
roll material up to 24 inches wide. Scores 5 stars
by a mix of those doing mounting. Dan

Decades ago I had problems with several pressure sensitive mounting materials. A second-hand press has been a valuable life-time investment since then.

I experimented with the 3M positionable mounting material many years ago, but I don't have any recent experience.

I also attempted to use heat-sensitive dry-mounting tissue with an ordinary flat iron. In spite of what Ansel Adams said, I'm convinced that is a recipe for disaster. I found that it was impossible to get uniform adhesion, and eventually bubbles would form under the print.

So I agree with Jim - a second-hand heat press was a priceless tool.

I have a heat press and mounting film, but get on much better with the 3M film which I've been using for nearly 10 years. It's full name for those interested is: 3M Scotch Positionable Mounting Adhesive 568. Something of a mouth full, but does what it's designed to do.

That scores 5 stars; 3M's 568, 11, 16, and 24 inch
wide 50 foot rolls. Start at $40. Not cheap. Likely
I'll work with one or two of the 'positional' sheet
materials before committing to 50 feet.

BTW, Misterart does carry Seal. Dan
