I had it on a wrist strap and the strap snapped dropping the camera on hard stone tile. No damage to the glass but the filter ring is dented and the shutter speed selector has become hard to move.
I'll do more tests to see if there's any other damage. Wondering if anyone has any experiences to share!?
Well there are many versions of the Canonet so it will help if we know which version you have. Also pictures of the damage both the front and sides of the lens barrel.
Worst case you bent the lens barrel and put the lens cells and shutter out of alignment.
Best case the damage is superficial and some straightening of the filter ring and shutter ring is all that is needed.

You just might, carefully, take a small pair of pliers and gently ease the metal back into place. Look carefully as to exactly WHY the shutter speed selector ring is hard to move. There could be a simple need to gently pry metal that is touching that ring. You can pry this with a small screwdriver. And I have 'unbent' many a filter ring with many gentle applications of a small pair of pliers. - David Lyga
