Dropped camera - and fixed it!

My bessa R3A had some vertical alignment issues - until last night when it took a tumble off the counter onto the wood floor, and it landed smack on its back. Then today, I went to take some shots and the alignment was normal - seemed spot on for vertical! Is it possible for it to have been fixed by a swift smack on the rear? This is how I fix lots of things, including my kids sometimes...

Sure it's possible. If it's correct to begin with and you drop it, it usually ends up randomly incorrect, right? Nothing says that process couldn't also work in reverse. The odds are a lot less in your favor. (There are lots and lots of possible incorrect outcomes, but only one correct one. Same with those kids.) But that doesn't mean it's impossible.

You need to drive to the store and buy a lottery ticket right now...

A previous 85/1.8 Nikkor that I owned was similar. Focus was stiff. Fell off my desk while mounted to my old F3P onto the carpet. Focusing ring was a lot smoother. A couple months later, happened again. Got even better. Guess the moral to the story is that sometimes you have an unexpected result when things happen.

Well I'm off to go throw my bessa down some stairs then, maybe my alignment issues will fix themselves too!

fixed an olympus XA that way -- dropped it once and the meter needle went kaflooey but the shutter still worked. Dropped it again months later, meter needle fixed!

do not intend to try adjustments on my Leicas this way, however.

Yep. We used to do this quite a bit to an old TV set. Only we called it "Percussive Maintenance."
