Hello from the edge of B.C. I grew up in a small town in B.C. in the sixties, with a strong interest in photography. I had a childhood dream of one day going to NYC and being a famous photographer. In 1979 after leaving a well paying job. I took a chance. It may have been luck, fate or whatever but it seemed like it was meant to be. Found work (darkroom/ photo clerk/ photographer' assistant) I took classes at Germain School of Photography. I met a lot of extremely helpful people. I never got famous but eventually I was a self employed freelance general commercial photographer. I had a small custom photo lab as well. E-6, C-41, and B/W in an Imagemaker model 1 and a twenty inch Colenta EP-2 (then converted to RA-4). My success or lack of it was totally on me. I had it all. When my jewelry clients wanted a Syquest disk (88 Mb) instead of a beautiful 4x5 transparency, I started to realize the gig was up. One client showed me a program called Photoshop (3.5).
The digital Age, my lack of computer knowledge and family issues back home, helped make the decision time to go back to B.C. After selling what I no longer needed and packing my trailer, I drove back to B.C. Time for a new adventure. Retired now, my pension is considerably lower than my peers. I'm not complaining, I know whose fault that was. I lived my dream.
