Would appreciate recommendations for computer programs which allow paper densities to be input to eliminate need for hand drawing curves. Phil Davis' Plotter Program is exactly what I had in mind but didn't want to invest quite that much at this stage.

Gnuplot is a pretty good hardcore graphing program that is available free for various operating systems. If you want to pay money, my favourite is Igor from Wavemetrics (www.wavementrics.com).
Robert Jackson's RJS Graph from http://www.rjsweb.net is also free, and works with Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000 and XP.
