Double Regular 8mm, Double Super 8mmm and more (perforating)

Just got a few rolls of Ektachrome 100D in Double 8mm from Film Photography Project. It costs a lot more than I used to pay so I’ll probably be shooting more Super 8 but I’m not giving up on Double 8mm.

A while back I asked them about that, they have to use unperforated. I cant remember their exact explanation but it causes problems they way their machine works.

since the film will change dimensions over time. if you try to re-perforate you will get some sprocket holes bigger than the others. Starting with unperforated stock, one can avoid all that.

Too bad they don't sell E100 directly in Europe, having it shipped over here from FPP is prohibitive. I still remember when a roll of 8mm was 15 euro at Wittner, ten years ago!

Actually Wittner neither offer any Double (reg.) 8 nor any Double Super 8 film at all.


So much about "product availability".

yeah it is a shame, back then I would make quite big orders of reg 8mm e100 when they had it. I wonder how much they charge to perforate it, I know a person in another forum that did tri-x and 500d, it was a bit expensive but not too much.

I've got one roll of Kahl UT18 colour reversal film to run through the Bolex H8 and then that's my lot... just incredibly expensive (almost makes shooting 8x10 sheet film look cheap!).

Wittner had said that they were only "Toll" perforating for Wholesale customers. But perhaps they have changed their mind.

It would be weird toll-manufacturing a product sought by own customers and not offering such themselves.

II suspect that one has to order several hundred rolls of 16mm film (400Ft) in order to get Kodak to ship it Non perforated. the video shows a pallet of film. It is one thing to have their toll customer to ship them some film to process, and another for them to lay out the cash to get a batch for their own account.

to get a film from Kodak in a Non-Standard size, you have to follow Kodak's rules <<
Non-factory stocked items will be supplied in accordance with our standard practices and also will be subject to minimum-order quantities
and delay in delivery. To determine availability, requests should be directed to the nearest Entertainment Imaging office . >>
