I added a picture of A TRI COLOR Gum Color File Image print that I did a while back to the gallery. There are some small dots on the print that I can explain. See the photo for a description of paper, pigment and sizing. Any help would be appreciated.
The dots are on the print in several spots but are more noticable in the Yellow Color Bar area - on far right side underaneth the image photo in the Yellow Color bar. They sort of look like grain.
I am using Windsor Newton Artist watercolors , N Azo Yellow, Q Red and Phthalo Blue in that order.
My best guess would be that your getting some staining. Red pigments are notorious for me, although it could be the blue. Were the spots there after you printed the yellow or do you recall after which layer they showed up? You could try another layer of PVA size just prior to staining layer.
Yes, I think it is staining. Both Q Rose as well as Phthalo Blue seem to stain. I have tried one coat PVA (1-2 ratio) but I think I'll need to recoat between every pigment layer - ugh!
Unfortunately, I cant exactly recall when the dots appeared but I think it was after the Phthalo Blue coat.
