The last couple of times I visited Dorset I was shooting mostly d******

This time I'm camping on the site near Monkey World and will be taking 35mm and 120 film/cameras, colour and B&W. Where would people suggest I can go to do some photography?

I know Monkey World of course, and Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.

I'm thinking of doing some IR photogrpahy, any recommendation?

Try Corfe Castle. It is one of the ruins that Cromwell knocked about a bit as Marie Lloyd used to sing. Such places can look great in IR

Corfe Castle was built by William The Conqueror and is almost two thousand years old and nothing to do with Cromwell.

Apart from the fact that it is in ruins because it was slighted by Cromwell’s army? Oh and if it was built by William the Conqueror it can’t be nearly two thousand years old as William conquered England in 1066. That’s less than 1 thousand years by my maths. But why let facts get in the way of a troll post, eh? ;-)

Other places nearby that may be worth a visit are Swanage for it’s old pier, Lyme Regis for the Cobb(a bit of a trek from Bovington) and basically anywhere along the coast such as Pulpit rock and the lighthouse at Portland for example.

Corfe Castle and the steam train down to Swanage is one fantastic day out. Another great day out is to explore Durdle Door and Kimmeridge. I also love to get out on the water so a boat ride around Poole harbour over to Brownsea with some time spent on Poole quay is always a nice way to spend a day when the weather is good.

Agree with the recommendations from other posters, pretty much everywhere along the coast into Devon is worth exploring. The former home of T.E. Lawrence is also on your doorstep, it is literally a little bit of history though.

How are you for walking? Dorset can be explored quite well by car but a lot of the really nice places away from the towns require solid walking shoes/boots and time. Nowhere is this more apparent than on Portland. Its only a few miles long by about a mile across yet you could spend several days exploring its foot paths where every 100 yards introduces something interesting.

Yes, Kimmeridge Bay is definitely worth a visit.

Almost anywhere along the Jurassic Coast is great for photography.

Yes, Corfe Castle is on the list along with the Swanage railway. I hadn't thought about IR photography but the castle could be great for that. I have never tried film IR photography but I do have the requisite filter and one roll of Rollei Retro 400S which I believe has some IR sensitivity.

I'm good for long walks but the wife isn't and one of our friends going is disabled with mobility issues. So probably getting around by car.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll definitely see if I can visit some of the places mentioned.

Anywhere on the Dorset coast is bound to produce interesting photos. Check out Old Harry Rocks near Swanage - tall chalk pinnacles off the headland. It's worth Googling Fort Henry, from where the Allied leaders watched the D-Day practice. Kimmeridge has been mentioned - look out for Clavell's Tower. This was a ruin when I first saw it but was physically moved several yards back from the cliff edge when it was in danger of ending up in the sea. It was restored and can now be rented from the Landmark Trust. We stayed in it for a few days and it was a fantastic experience (if a little pricey.)
