One came today.
Its metal
CR1632 batteries
Comes in three different colour combinations.
Quick and easy use.
For me is half the price of the Voigtlander.
25 iso to 6400 iso.
Most importantly looks good.
Even tells you the exposure

Looks really nice.
ISO range is lacking. I shoot many films below ISO 25 so it ruled this one out.
Bummer about using the unusual battery instead of regular LR44 cells like the Voigtlander or Reveni.

What this tells you is how overpriced the Voigtlander meter was. To put it into perspective, they charged more for the meter by itself than the Bessa L camera, which came with that meter built into it!

It looks like this battery size is a standard for a lot of key fobs, and there are lots of them on Amazon, so the battery concern might be less than you might think.

Every shop I have been to that sells more than one type of button battery sells them here. I picked mine up from the local Woolworths while doing the grocery shopping.
I don't use anything slower than 100 iso on a rangefinder, but I can do mental arithmetic up to four figures before it gets tricky. Calculating a few extra stops isn't an issue. Need to do that with wetplate as my handheld meter on only goes to iso 6.

Used it yesterday, works well, quick and easy, do need to rehit button every few seconds to check out different light conditions.

Ok, so I got my math hat on as the meter only goes down to ISO 25.
Ok so I ordered up some spare batteries.
I'm out in the field happily taking snaps. My battery dies. No problem, I brought a spare!
But wait, I forgot to also pack a Philips head screwdriver cuz this thing needs a screwdriver to change batteries?

Ya I'm in a complaining mood, but honestly this is a brand new meter that only reads to ISO 25, has an off size battery, and needs a screw driver to change it.
It's like a pre-production item, not finalized.

It comes with a screw driver!, spare screws and another hot shoe foot in a neat little snap lock bag that can also hold several batteries that can be purchased from most corner shops, service stations, newsagent and delicatessens. Will also hold a little card with the stop adjustments on if you are mathematically challenged.
For a small fee the lady in the drycleaners will even change the battery for you.
Or you can just get one of those ugly plastic cube meters for the same price.

This is a pretty cool tool for sure.
I think the only thing missing from it is a laser rangefinder telling you the distance to your subject.
I have a lot of cameras with manual focus and no viewfinder guidance for distance and having both light metering and distance taken care of would change everything!

That said, there are apps for the iPhone 12 that do measure distance between you and a point in front of you, AND apps that help you meter light for manual cameras.

But nothing that does both yet I'm afraid!

This isn't exactly a light meter but I created an account to test it out.
I like it, I wish there was a way for the user to add formats that are less common (I shoot still 16mm and film Super 8mm for example), especially since it is a "Required" field.
I tried the app "Film Rolls" for iOS which unfortunately is buggy (unable to erase entries on the iPhone 12, messaged the developer, no response), and the app "Analog" which does something similar, but has a confusing UX.
I think it's a good service but the developers might save lots of money making it into an app so users don't have to create an account and the data can be hosted locally.

I've been looking at one of these as a possible replacement, once my VC-II decides to pack it in.
Not to bothered about the low ISO, but the battery size is off-putting.

Also, Huss, what is the battery life with one of these DOOMO meters?
The 2 LR44s last pretty long in my VC-II.

Thats great, an app for OCD photographers. App people care about everyone.

I shoot a lot of diff film in diff cameras, and this is a great way of tracking what/where/when etc.
What is ready for developing, what is ready for scanning. What ISOs used. What lenses used.
It's free too, so...

Plus I don't like putting tape on my cameras and writing on them. An aesthetic thing for me.

But what is the phone runs out of charge and the Apple store is in the other end of town and there's a conductor strike and all the Uber drivers are in prayer?
Also you still need to mark the film canisters which is which.
Tape on a camera looks very professional, saw a news camera man yesterday and he had crap all over the camera hard to work out where the lens was....and you need to tape up the Holgas anyhow so theres always tape in the camera bag.

It is scary using technology.

Thought so, I think the CR1632 is the modern space saving equivalent. I don't own anything less than 40 years old that takes lr44's.

Leica MP uses LR44. Perhaps the most expensive piece of equipment to do so.
