I have been trying to find the right bag for some time now, but, for one reason or another, have had some difficulty. I love my Tamrac 5202, but I would like to try to avoid Chinese-made products. I have narrowed down my list to the Domke F-6 and Tamrac 602 Expo 2. I would like to fit an SLR (of course) with a grip and lens attached, and room for an extra lens and a relatively compact flash would be ideal. A typical configuration would be a Minolta XG-M with the Motor Drive 1 and MC Rokkor 58/1.4. I might also bring along the MD Tele Rokkor 135/3.5 and 200X flash.
Domke bags are excellent and compact. I like mine a lot. That said, they tend to have minimal padding (which makes them compact). I am not familiar with camera you are talking about, but it sounds like everything should fit pretty easily. It isn't easy to find too many consumer products made in the US anymore, but this is a great one.
Thanks, Mark...indeed, I have heard good things about Domke bags, although they do not have the padding that other bags have. I am not sure if I need mega padding (or if anyone needs it), and so a Domke sounds like it would be a good choice for me.
I used to have a 5202 which I liked but have recently replaced it with
a 605R Expo 5 that, I find, is of much higher quality. Not only is it
better made, but it also suits my equipment more nicely, being
narrower, deeper and without that stupid waist belt. I also adore my
Tamrac 604 and 515, considering myself a new great fan of vintage
American-made Tamrac bags. They're padded enough, but not excessively
Thanks, frdrx...I probably should have waited for some more opinions, but I went ahead and purchased the Domke F-6. It was a good deal, and it seems like an excellent bag. I gather it should take at least a week to get here, though.
The F-6 arrived yesterday. Wow, what a camera bag--easily the best I have seen...plenty of space (but not too much), excellent organization, superb build quality, and made in the US. I am glad to know someone was paid a fair wage to build this bag, especially since it is surely worth the price. With the deals being offered on some Domkes, I can see no reason to buy a China bag.
