Just thought I would ask if people toss their grungy Potassium Oxalate or filter and replenish.

I just replenish with fresh occasionally after filtration.

Please note never use PO in your bong or bong water for developer even though they may look similar!

Thanks for the laugh Don. :D

I've been replenishing (and filtering when necessary) my Potassium Oxalate for almost 20 years now. Occasionally some pretty green crystals form at the bottom of the jug. I'm not sure what this is or what causes it. Mike Ware once suggested that it might be something to do with chromium, but that was back in the days when I used the dichromate/oxalate method of contrast control. It still happens once in a while even though I haven't used dichromate in many years, so I guess that shoots down that theory.

I filter mine with a reusable coffee filter, it gets out the big chunks but the fine black silt makes it way back into the replenished PO.

It doesn't smell nearly as bad as seasoned bong water.

Jeff,

I use chem lab type filter paper in a 5" diameter buchner filter. It gets most of the silt too. I've had the thing for a long time and can't remember where I got it but they can't be too difficult to find. Works much better than the coffee filter. You can even use it with a vacuum flask to get the job done quickly.

Oh yeah, and thanks for the olfactory memory - yuck!

Cheers,
Keith
