They process c41 on site, printed on Kodak paper.

Not sure if it sells, will have to check the expirations on the boxes, the store is maybe 4 years or less old, if it's expired we will have our answer...

The Ultramax at the two local CVS' I use sells. Expiration dates at one store were 03/2013 and the other 05/2014. It's due to be on sale next week so I will check again then. They offer C-41 processing on-site but I process all my own so I have no idea how much that gets used. The Tri-X and BW400CN sell as well, but not as much with expirations on the BW400 late 2012/early 2013 and the Tri-X all 2013. But the stock goes up and down slowly so I guess that they are refilling the shelf from a box in the back.

I wish they'd get real with their Tri-X prices, though, cause it would be nice to be able to walk into CVS and just buy some rather than stockpiling. I'd imagine that anyone seriously using either of these B/W films does like I do and are buying online at more reasonable prices.

Well, considering that CVS does not do black and white processing it is a welcome surprise that they sell Tri-X at all.

But if they got that price in line with reality they would likely sell lots more.

I have a local new and used camera store in my neighborhood and they are selling and stocking a lot more film now than 2 years ago. I should drop in and see what they charge for Tri-X.

Even though I buy online and have about 100 rolls of 35mm black and white film in the freezer, I think I'll buy a couple rolls at retail this weekend just to show support.

I am all about doing that when I can. But one camera shop I went in to wanted $50 for a 10 sheet box of E100. I'm not big on paying more then 50% extra. And I just flat out will not pay that much extra when other stores in the area have the same film for much less.

The CVS in my neighbourhood is equipped to process b&w film. Not sure if the other drugstore on the other side of town has b&w processing. Instead, I do all my own b&w processing.

Do they really do B&W? Or do they do the C41 stuff?

It is due to a long history. George Eastman was the one who made the decision to use drugstores as the primary sales location for early Eastman Kodak products, and that ended up being part of the culture of expectations.

This really made a lot of sense. The local druggist in many small towns was most likely to have the best chemistry education of anyone in town. So it was not a bad fit.

My local drug store still sells BW400CN and Tri-X. The price was raised to $6.99 a roll though (I'm pretty sure just a few months ago I was paying $4.99 or $5.99). The cashier is also a photo enthuasiast (albeit digital) and said I'm pretty much the only person who buys film from that store anymore

Yeah. They do both c41 and b&w. I asked once as I noted that they still sold b&w film. Though I think they print b&w film on colour paper.

Just got home from CVS. They had a few rolls of Kodak Ultramax, but a huge supply of cameras with film in them. They all look like they were new. Don't know if this is the new Kodak or not. Maybe they figure that there are not many people here who buy just film. They still develop film in house. They (CVS) has a brand new machine too. So they must be selling these type of cameras with film.

Last year when I used them there was very few people who was buying film. I had them save the film containers for me, over six months. I got less than 50 counting mine too.

Ok, you're talking about the BW400CN film. Not true B&W film.

That's a C41 based film where the dye is black instead of the colors associated with regular color negative film. This lets them run it in a mini-lab with regular old color negative film.

Any CVS or Walgreens that still does C41 processing can run this film.

And you are correct it is usually printed on color paper.
