Does anyone know of a vendor for Hasselblad A12 film back pouches/cases?

Folks,

I can see the leather ones that are available from China and those would be fine I suppose but I was hoping to get a product made of ripstop nylon in the tradition of the old Tenba or Tamrac system pouches or similar... I'm not seeing anything other than the leather ones but before I buy those, I figured I'd ask in case people are aware of other options.

I'm not intending to put them on a belt or anything, but would probably prefer something that wasn't organic-based so it won't be susceptible to moisture and humidity.

I hadn't tried discussing this with a custom fabricator but that is a option I'll look at if I don't find anything suitable.

The Lightware GS500 may have been discontinued. I'm getting mixed signals on that but I'll look into it a bit and see if it is available.

Pieter, do you have one of these? I'm thinking they look pretty bulky and since they aren't designed specifically for the A12 backs, they are necessarily a bit larger to fit other backs, etc. If that is the case, they are going to be too bulky for my needs probably.

I do, and, yes it is a bit larger than needed for the A12 back. It is Al’s made of heavy-duty material, adding to its size. Capture Integration makes a smaller case, I haven’t tried to fit an A12 in there, and I am unsure of the availability.

Protective Digital Back Case ( fitted for Phase One, Mamiya Leaf Credo)

This small zippered case is akin to the Mamiya Leaf protective pouch and branded with the Capture Integration logo. It is a suitable fit to safely store any digital back including Phase One, Mamiya Leaf, etc.

I have just one spare A12 film back. I keep whichever of my backs is out of service in a Domke wrap. It is very protective, quick and easy to wrap and unwrap. They are available in a variety of colors. I also use them for my LTM Leica bodies and find color coding the bodies very convenient.

I use lens wraps and keep the film backs in the camera bag or backpack.

I did discover this a few days back...

KarauProducts pouch for: Hasselblad Back pouch | eBay

The pouch is made with 1000D Nylon on the outside. There is a sewn Nylon belt loop on the back, to easily fit 2" belts.

They are made by a dude locally in CA and it looks like he sells products for the commercial film industry. I asked him about making a few for me and it sounds like he can, so I may have my solution.

I do have lens wraps here, but they are somewhat bulky, except the smallest ones, which I don't have too many of. I will use them until I have some pouches.

There are a number of possibilities, lens wraps are useful for me. I also have several pockets in the camera bag/backpack that hold the film backs.

Yeah, the camera bags are a bit of a problem for these medium format cameras... don't you think? None of them are really made with the dimensions needed to accommodate the width/thickness of the cameras and lenses, so they are all a bit of a squeeze. I haven't really found any bag that accommodates the MF gear all that well, but they do fit in OK for the most part.

Case in point, the Hasselblad with a MP5 prism on it is a bit of a squeeze and the prism is poking up more than I'd like. Makes it vulnerable.

The film backs would fit in the divider pockets and I could easily do that except the bag is pretty full and there aren't spare spots in that part of the bag to fit them, so they need to go in the large open space where my spare film and a jacket would go (I'm using a large Shimoda backpack with the large insert).

I find the ThinkTank/Mindshift larger bags and backpacks work with my MF gear. I can even fit several cameras and lenses in the MindShift 36L backpack. Also, the Retrospecttive 30 and 40 shoulder bags will fit a MF with lens nicely, along with a spare lens. Plus a back or insert and film in the generous pockets.

I have tried many camera bags and camera backpack. Carrying a side camera bag all day throws off my back and has done that for years, so I use a top loading backpack with a waist strap to send the weight to the hips. The camera is around my neck or over one should with its prism and a lens. When I change lenses, the pack comes of, the lenses switched and the pack back on. I recently got a camera vest which will allow my to store some lenses and film backs in the vest. I will see how that goes. Recently I got a Cotton Carrier which provides a chest point attachment of a camera and lens by the camera body or lens tripod hold. One puts the attachment point in the slot and rotates the camera. It takes a rotation to remove the equipment which leaves the hands free for walking or climbing. Both the vest and the Cotton carrier look promising but the jury is still out.

You may take a look at fishing reel cases at Cabela’s/Bass Pro. I found one that holds a RB67 back pretty well. They are readily available and very reasonably priced. Worth a look.

Just an update...

I found a maker on Ebay named Karau that had one listed for sale that I mentioned above. I did email him and he got me four pouches that he made to order in about a week. Looks high quality and the price was good. For more than one, he beat the Ebay price. I'd recommend talking directly to him. Look for him by "Karau Products" on Facebook. I think I found an email address through that.

He doesn't have a website, but you'll find his products listed at some of the movie production supplier companies in the LA area. None of these specialized camera items, though.

Highly recommended...
