Does anyone know of a film handling service that will cut 8x10 down to 5x7?

I don't really feel like bothering with a rotatrim for several reasons; dust, precision of measurement and scratches to the base side of the film. Now that kodak has discontinued 5x7 and with my frozen supply dwindling in the freezer, I think that it's time I start looking for a professional who can cut and repackage 8x10 down to 5x7. I used a graphic arts co. in the past but found out they were using a very dim safelight in their cutting room! Any leads?

Who says that Kodak has discontinued 5x7? They no longer make color negative 5x7, true. But Tmax 400 is still available in 5x7, and there are plenty of other manufacturers making 5x7 black-and-white film. Foma, Ilford, Bergger, Efke, and Fuji to name a few. Fuji still makes Provia in 5x7 also, if you want a color transparency material.

There is also a good selection of Kodak Ektachrome in 13x18cm. You either need new holders, or to trim a millimeter off the width to use them in 5x7" holders. But there's a lot less waste than with cutting down 8x10"!

WOW, I almost had a heart attack..no more 5x7 Tmax or Tri-x. I buy as much Ilford as I can but these two films are my security blanket...EC

For color neg, you're right- you have to buy bigger and cut down. I don't know of a good cutting service. I want to shoot some whole-plate color neg when the modern film holders in whole plate become available, so I'll be getting 8x10 and cutting it down at that time.

EC, There's no Tri-x in sheet film, it's TXP320

I like to conserve film too, Ole, but given the current exchange rate and shipping costs for 13x18 from overseas I'm afraid it makes more sense to conserve cash and buy domestic. Oh yeah, I don't shoot chrome in 57.

worldwide

I consider this user group a worldwide affair. (Perhaps I should not do so any more.)
And thus I do not necessarily consider a member without a topographic hint as being from the USA.

I believe it's a safe assumption that anyone who doesn't feel it necessary to write anything about location is most likely to be from the USA.

Actually, I've found the folks with no location identifier in their status to be an almost even split between U.S. and Europe, with a handful from Asia as well.

However, when writing, the Americans tend to assume the U.S. location a LOT more often.

I think there are fewer and fewer folks from the USA posting here.

I live on the US east coast (NYC) and find that there are many more new posts when I first check the site in the early AM than when I check it in the evening. This would suggest that a lot more Asians and Europeans are posting during their waking hours than are Americans; particularly since it seems that at least as many Canadians post here as do those from the USA. This despite the fact that the Canada has about 1/10th the population of the US.

Does anyone know of a film handling service that will cut 8x10 down to 5x7?
