I'm quite new here (registered since 10 minutes) and don't really know if this is pertinent or not with the all APUG thing.
I've been living here in Dublin for a while now and never been able to find a Documentary (Reportage) Workshop.
does any body know of some workshop that might be held somewhere?
I'd be interested in something like that as well, but so far the best I've seen is self study. Talk to documentary photographers in your area, read documentary books, contact documentary organizations (like here in the States we have HABS/HAER and the like), etc...
Randy, I've been self studying for quite a while now and I have to say that attending a "good" Workshop present many advantages.
The topic of Documentary Photography, here in Ireland, seems taken rather superficially. (don't intend to offend anybody).
Realizing a workshop with a competent host shouldn't be a tough deal and I have the impression that would be a topic that would potentially attract a numerous audience.
Maybe you could actually organize such a thing yourself, or talk a local photography club into doing it, or partnering with you at the very least. You could contact a local news/docu shooter and have them come give a workshop covering some list of topics you feel is appropriate.
Hi Senghor,
Check out Dublin Camera Club they have a documentary group that meet once a month on a Monday night. The club has its own website so you can check out the next meeting date. I don't think that they run workshops but the group has survived several years so its members must still gain satisfaction from it.
Hi Will,
I attended the meeting at the Dublin Camera Club last Tuesday night and there was a talk given by the members of the documentary group show examples of all the "greats" work and they finished off by having slide shows of their own work.
