Yes, this happens. I got such stack myself where I did not even know that there was a stack of halide paper inside. And we a got a thread where such Ebay offers were reported.

But, if the stack was and remained tight during exposure chances are that ithe sheets had been not light exposed completely (though a stack of film would be more absorbent),. Furthermore even exposed paper may be useful for some of us.

That "Open in the dark only" has been handled very differently by paper manufacturers: from stating it clearly on the front, over a tiny remark at the side to no remark at all.

I've seen that on Ebay numerous times...
<facepalm>
One thing to consider is that nowadays, digital ink-jet photo printing paper isn't light-sensitive...and that is the only kind a whole generation knows about!

Has anyone contacted the seller, I have told sellers before and they withdraw the sale.
I saw one seller use cotton gloves to quickly display the paper, not sure what they were thinking.

LOL (Only because I'm not the buyer).
I saw a similar ad recently, although it might not necessarily be that bad: a guy was rationing photo chemistry and selling it in smaller bottles to "help out" those people who can't afford it (maybe he was catering to students?).There was no mention of dates of any kind (whether expiration or date-by use) which made it seem iffy to me. Also, the picture of used plastic bottles he was using for the chemistry didn't make it seem very serious. The ad is gone now. Hopefully, he was being honest, and didn't dupe anyone.

It happens all the time. Me too, I sometimes contacted sellers and let them know that they ruined what they offer for sell.

An Ebay classic.

They do that with bulk film, too.

Who makes or in the past made Zone VI Brilliant paper ? How old might this stuff be, even if it hadn't been exposed? I googled it and there were some pertinent comments from Bob Carnie, I thought. Does Coronavirus badly affect British brains' reasoning ability? Someone obviously thinks so at about $140 for old paper that has been already exposed.

Reminds me of some other U.S. seller who several years ago and for week after week advertised Ilford MGIV paper on the U.K. e-bay at a slightly higher price than it was being sold by any stockists in the U.K. then on top of that there was a large shipping cost. In my then naivety I thought I'd try and explain to him why it was never going to sell but it made no difference.

Later and it was here on Photrio that I saw some suggestions about what the purpose of such a doomed-to-failure pricing policy might be. It seemed to me that the suggestions were probably right.

If possible alert the seller in time. It is just part of the eBay entertainment. I would not buy photographic paper, sheet film, ... on eBay unless it was directly from a camera store.

As far as I can tell, the auction was cancelled before a sale... So there's that at least.

There should be a completely separate part of Photrio for these “Let’s make fun of ignorant eBay sellers”.

As Indicated above, we got a respective thread, "The whacky thing I saw at Ebay etc".

Concerning ignorant sellers. I myself opened such a package from a rummage box, as I did not expect the folded black paper to contain a stack of photographic paper.
