Do you feel Lucky, punk?

Well, I must certainly did felt lucky.
Running out of film while on a trip in China, wasn't much of a pleasant predicament in this most photogenic and subject rich country. Fortunately the hotel I was staying in Beijing was right at the center of the city, next to a busy road, filled with photo stores and with some encouragement from APUGers, I made the effort to investigate (which in the piercing cold was an honorable effort). Most catered to the digital crowd, with a bunch of 135 rolls on display, but I did happen upon a bigger store that had some 120 film.
Fuji and Kodak film was way too expensive, so I decided to roll the dice and grab some Lucky SHD100 rolls.

At home, I decided to use my trusty Ilfosol 3 developer, but as there weren't any published times on that combination, I pushed my luck even further and after studying the times for D-76 and Rodinal, also on the 400 iso film, I decided to try out a 5 minute development on my Jobo CPP-2.

The results?
Well, I am very surprisingly pleased, especially after reading all sorts of bad things about this film. At the drying stage, I even left it too much under a hair drier and the rolls curled, but no damage was done and they returned to be flat once they cooled down. The backing paper feels rough and cheap and the glue on the wrapping tabs didn't work well, letting loose even the one holding the backing paper to the film.
But no harm was done and the images as you can see are just fine, showing an excellent dynamic range. I can't comment on the grain as they are negative scans and my scanning software at present is not trustworthy, but I have no complaints so far.

Looks pretty good stuff, Ari. A good test of a film, I always think, is how well it produces texture in a bride's white dress and this one seems to have passed that test.

I can recall getting into film over 29 years ago now.

I was basically self tought; the darkroom at school was just the facility; no course. There was rudimentary instruction so that we could put out images for the yearbook, but certianly nothing apporaching amrking it anything refined.

I would shoot two short rolls in the same lighting situations (sometiems rerolling a bought roll half way onto a new casestte), and proceed to develop one in the usual manner of whatever I had been doing for the past, and if the test roll showed a need for a correction, try the correction on the next processing run with the other half of the film.

So good on you for winging it and giving a new unknown a try. The images look quite fine from the scans you have posted.
