Hi All,

I have been having an increased amount of
folks sending me shutters in baggies...
I have no problem with people wanting to save money
and try to clean shutters themselves, like the old
compur, ilex, alphax shutter but I would I would advise
that it's best to let someone with repair knowledge to
take care of your Synchro-compur shutters.
They are a complex shutter with many springs
and levers and in most cases when folks try, they end up
sending them to me or an other repair facility in baggies
many times with missing or broken parts.

So save your baggies and if you have one of these
shutters and it needs to be cleaned, leave it to knowledgeable
person.

Thanks!

Synchro-Compur shutters: I avoid them like the plague, I did exactly what you described, I opened one up and tried to clean it. I would have been better to go out and dissemble the transmission on my truck to clean and adjust it. If there is a line that has to be crossed it's the Synchro-Compur shutter that is on the line.

Anyone want or need a bag of Synchro-Compur shutter parts? I kept it as a cautionary tale of what can happen when a person gets in over his/her head.

Thanks for posting this for all to see.
Curt

Which is why I sent the whole camera to you. ;^)}

All those people must have the same optimism gene as my wife. Her favourite expression, when I say I'm not going to touch some plumbing, electrical or other repair job I don't know how to do, is "well, isn't it just a simple matter of ..........".

Dear Curt, YES i would like that bag, if all the parts are in it......

Yoy might even run the risk to get it back: fully working !

Ditto that!

The last shutter I serviced (clean & lube job) was the Syncro Compur to which my beloved Schneider 210 Symmar is attached. Granted, it took three tries re-seating the back before the blades stayed put. It's like I have a brand new lens.

My favorite shutter mishap occurred about 20 years ago when I was cleaning some Dial Set Compurs using trichloroethylene. I had about 20 or so of the DS Compurs and all had metal blades, but then somewhere I unknowingly got hold of a model with hard rubber blades. Soon after I swished the shutter around in the solvent, all of the blades shriveled and curled up . . . ruined!!

That is a really big deal. I am glad it was not me!

Carol they also do the same thing with cameras and when they send then in for work they never tell you about it. When you inform then of this they sometimes say oh yet I meant to tell you about it. Then ask why is it costing more then the original quote and taking longer then quoted.

Hi, Anyone had any experiance with Sinar electronic shutters? I have one where the rotary blades keep jamming and blowing the fuse in the battery compartment.

Cheers Dave

When I find unexpected finds like springs or parts missing I will ask about it and most say... "I bought it off ebay." I bet you get some that are rusty too and they kinda forgot to tell you that it just happened to take a dip in some form of water awhile ago, but they dried it out and it was working before they put it away the last time.

Hey! I resemble that. I checked the date you posted this and it coincides with the 2 Compur shutters I sent you in baggies. Check you PM's
