I am selling several El-Nikkor lenses and one question sent to me was about the condition of the anti reflective coating on both front and back elements of the 80mm lens?. I've checked this lens and other El-Nikkor lenses that I am selling using different power magnifiers but could not see 1). any evidence of defects and 2). do enlarging lenses have such coatings?.

Practically any optics better than a loupe from post WWII has anti-reflective coating.

Well, I thought it over: menisci and achromats and finder optics lacked a coating, but I would say any taking or enlarging lens from triplet on had a coating.
However there are reports of uncoated plain and modified triplets.

When viewing a coated lens the presence of the coating is often apparent as magenta color of reflections. It is fairly hard but can be worn scratched and attacked by some chemicals including fixer.

The color changed over the years, with the coating technology evolving. In any case a lens should be checked for the reflections of a colourless lightsource. Many lenses I got have some surfaces uncoated, so there may be coloured and uncoloured reflections side by side.

Of course they're coated. The potential buyer simply wants to know if there are any apparent scuffs or scratches on the coating.
