Before I downsize....
Do Century studio cameras take modern 8x10 holders or the plateholders that are about 1/4" wider?

Chris, mine takes modern holders. Have fun.
 
I would guess that many LF cameras were "updated" to take standard holders over the years. After all, on most, the backs snap off to rotate from horizontal to verticle. So...simple matter to just exchange the back, way back when.
 
The thing with traditional wooden large format cameras is that they never became obsolete. Down thru the years photographers adapted them to whatever their current practice was. It wasn't hard to acquire a new back and have a woodworker "adjust" it to fit. Lots of people made 4x5 reducing backs and of course the "ever popular" split 5x7 back for portraits. You can only know what an old camera takes in regards film holders by examination.
