Far too much uninteresting negative space for me. I believe the intent is to use this to focus our attention on the subject, but it is too much.

In some of the reproductions on the net, there's some detail toward the bottom that doesn't show up in this version. It's printed in 11x14" and 16x20", and there's a lot of detail in that middle strip that I think would be important, so it's hard to judge from the web version, but it's interesting enough that I'd be curious to see a print.

Whyncha move me to "discussing a ****** Photo thread"?

A huge problem is discussing ONE photo when the work is built-up in context

ONE photo is great for on the nightstand or over the sofa

But without context much (modern and older) work is... not much

Forums/discussions typically fail come close to appreciating a photographer's work because, after all, that photographer ALWAYS understands his work in his own context...much the way of his collectors, publishers, and maybe even clients/

I think it'd be helpful to look at a lot of Leiter's work to appreciate what he was doing with this photo in something like the context of his other work.

Museums that hang the work of individual photographers, along with many other individual photographers, accomplish almost nothing..
