Hey,

i bought this Zeiss lens without a hood and am hoping to get an off brand hood that is cheaper. Does anyone know the dimensions of the original hood? length is a good start and diameter at both ends would be amazing! If you're up for the challenge maybe you know if there's another hood that will fit on the Zeiss mount? I.e. Outside the lens and not just screwed into the filter thread.

thanks in advance,

Daniel

There is an almost endless supply of lens hood that are made in China on Amazon or eBay.

Yes, but I don't know which ones fit the outside of this lens.... They aren't all the same I assume? For example if I have a Nikon hood for a lens that also has a 67mm thread.

I know that the B60 filters fit with the B60 lens hoods on the outside of the lens. No interference. I do not know about a Nikon hood with a 67mm thread.

"Outside the lens?" As in slip-on?
You may find something for an older aftermarket zoom that would reverse but it would still mount on the filter threads.

As in whatever this style of mount is called. Where the hood doesn't screw into the filter thread but has its own mount on the outside

Some shades I know with fixing at the circumference of the lens have a bayonet mount, as the one in the picture above.
Some are just slipped on.
One model I know has a belt fixture. To be used on plain circumferences.

Yep, I haven't seen any screw in types that mount on the outside. Are all bayonet mounts the same?

Daniel, Its 57.2mm long and 81.4mm wide (outside diameter). Diameter at the lens front bayonet is not important if you don't have original one. Buying one with 67mm diameter is your best bet. Or simply buy original one, maybe it's on the end cheapest solution? How come did you got lens with out hood? It's part of the lens kit.

Thanks so much Gorbas  I bought it second hand and got it cheaper seeing as it's without the hood, guess the guy lost it. Cheap enough that I could buy the hood and it would be at a fair price, but I'd rather save the money and keep it in the arena of good deal. $2 vs $100 is the difference between eBay hoods, no brand vs Zeiss.

No, the bayonets are propriatory, as lens mounts.

Even the Canon FD lenses have lens hood mounts different from those of the succeeding EF lenses.
