Dimensions for Omega D series filter holder

A friend is trying to resurrect an Omega DII. The lens cone has the piece to which the filter holder attaches, but no filter holder. I thought I'd try to cobble together an alternative.

Can anyone tell me the length of the arm of the piece that holds the filter? From the hole where it attaches to the square section. Thanks.

Buy Ilford 6x6 inch filter set and use them in the upper condenser housing above the condensers. No need for under lens filters.

That what I use, as I now print with a LED bulb no worry about heat affecting the filters. Sorry I dont have the arm, and only 1 lens with the bracket still on it. If no one has a bracket with correct measures: measure from the bracket to the center of the lens then subtract the size of the holder, make a template to insure that it fits before fabricating. Other option, under the lens bracket that comes with Ilford under the lens filter set.

I use a color head, instead of the Ilford filters now. But I recently re-purposed the filter holder. It turns out it will hold an iPhone, so I use an iPhone and some hot-lights with this holder to turn my enlarger into a copy stand.

That's along the lines of what I plan to do for him as a 2nd step. First step was to fashion a holder using a spring clip as an immediate solution.

He has 2" filters, so I'd prefer to avoid a solution that requires 6" filters. Plus, his filter drawer is above the condenser, so I wonder how filters with hold up to heat. What complicates this a bit is that he's 100 miles from me, so I can't go measure.

So, notwithstanding other options, I'd still like to have that measurement.

The holes for the board side are 1 1/16 inch apart and I have see tapped holes and bolts with octagonal nuts and acorn nuts. The flat part that sits on the large board, and has the holes, is 1 9/16 long X 3/4 wide. The inside is curved to match round lens boards. The other side is cut in to 3/4 width to match the upright and the filter arm, but could be any width. The piece then turns 90 degrees on it's 3/4 width ans is 1 3/4 long . this then turns to the original plane on it's 3/4 width to 1 1/4 long. The end of this is rounded and has a centre cut out 3/16 wide x 7/16 long.
The whole thing could be done with a 3 1/4 x 2 inch ( 3/32 thick) piece bent twice and 2 holes and one slot made.

One of my favorite YouTube photography how-to channels, The Naked Photographer, has a video up on making his own filter support for loose gelatin contrast filters to fit an enlarger that has a hole for one in the lens mount, but lacks the actual filter holder.

Hopefully this helps:

I'm not sure if it's entirely clear, but the "arm" juts out 55mm from the actual tray part, but the length of the metal itself is 60mm to account for that bend 5mm from the end.
Also, apologies for not converting the metric for you, millimetres were simply more precise at this size.

Pretty sure the "65mm between the two right angle bends + 5mm either side after the bend" adds up to 75mm total width, not 70mm as noted above.

All very helpful. I needed that 60mm (55 +5) measurement. And I can deal with mm.

My initial quick and dirty plan is to find a battery clamp of the correct size to mount to the existing "silver" post. That will clamp to the plastic tab on the Ilford 2" filter. Part 2 will be to take a thin piece of acrylic (plexiglas) to fashion a holder like ic-racer showed. I might even get fancy and make it double ended, with one end being a red filter and the other being the holder. Thanks to all.

If you want seriously quick and dirty, I've made one of these in the past using a long bolt (to replace the aforementioned silver post) and twisted a piece of coat hanger wire into a loop with enough of a handle/tail to attach it to the bolt whilst also being long enough to place the loop under the lens. The filter simply rested on my litter loop-tray. I blackened the wire with a bit of matte black spray paint. Thirty seconds and no money spent.

Or do what I've done -- hand hold a 3" square of lighting gel filter under the lens. I bought blue (couldn't find magenta with a sharp enough green cut) and yellow (big sheets, so I can easily replace the small ones when they get too scratched up), and split filter with them as if 00 and 5. Couldn't tell you what grade my prints are at, just how much exposure with each filter.

Hand holding does make dodging and burning an adventure, so now that I have a more permanent setup, I'll probably make a holder for the gels. I probably won't ever go back to single contrast filtering, though -- split grade is too easy and versatile.
