Dilution for R09 In Paterson Orbital Proc.

Does anybody have a tested dilution ratio for R09 or rodinal for the paterson orbital processor, it has been suggested 1+20 before I go ahead is there any other views working on a maxiumum liquid amount of 120ml in total.

The orbital processor can be used in two ways. As a standing tray with intermittent agitation or with continuous agitation. I use mine in a water bath for tempering with intermittent agitation, but then the developer quantity is much more. In fact 1600ml total to cover 4 sheets of 4x5. For continuous agitation figure it just like any other continuous method of which I'm sure there are development times around. Do be smart tho and do a test sheet first. The rule of thumb is 100ml of undiluted solution for an 8x10 sheet of film. I always use a 125ml figure instead. On dilution you should up rate that amount some. Testing is imperative. What you should try is putting an old sheet in the tray and when open adding water while you agitate and see sufficient coverage and then measure the amount. Also watch the flow over the test sheet. IIRC I never saw sufficient corner agitation when used in a circular motion. I prefer a back and forth rocking style, but each to their own.

It’s worth doing a search on this subject as it has been discussed several times before on this forum.
For what it’s worth I use the supplied measures of, I think, 60ml, and have used this amount to develop 4 sheets of 5x4 film using the electric rotation base. As previously discussed you do need to either roughen the base or as I do apply small beads of epoxy adhesive to prevent the film sticking by suction. You do need to sacrifice some film to arrive at your own development times, but they won’t be far of the manufacturers times.
