Welp, I went ahead and made myself a digital Xpan. It's bulky and impractical and I'm still working out the kinks. It has potential though.

You all can do this on a nice little budget. No crop in the photo above.

No offense, but... let's say I am skeptical.

B&L CinemaScope 2x anamorphic squeeze attached to a Focal MC 135mm K mount lens all mounted onto a Canon T2i. Photo is squeezed in photoshop to a 2.33:1 ratio.

Setup

Test shot from earlier today

I'll be moving onto film when I get this nailed down.

What now brown cow?

That's a bit larger than an Xpan. LOL

Yep.

Proof of concept. I might go for a smaller squeeze on my next lens. The 2x seems a bit overboard. It does give an awesome field of view though.

OK, now I am impressed ;-) I have thought of using an anamorphic lens exactly like you do, but the size and lack of easy focusing is daunting.

It's not too bad. I went cheap though and got a B&L. When I master this I'll go for something smaller like a Iso or maybe a 1.33:1 squeeze. As of now the B&L doesn't focus and minimum focus is about 20 feet.

The lowest cost is the Moondog labs 1.33x anamorphic lens for the iPhone ;-). I used that a few times for fun.

This was less, including the useless attachment ring...

Does the moondog give flare?

50mm Nikon E lens cropped in post

Same lens uncropped

The 50 seems a bit wide. I'm waiting on a Jupiter 9 85mm to see how that looks. So far I have a 50 and 135. The 135 is a little too long, also the lenses seem to behave when being stopped down to f/8 or farther. Anything remotely fast and the clarity drops substantially.
