I have moved into a new house where the kitchen and dining room are seperate where my old one was straight though and gave a reasonable throw for projected digital images. This distance isn't the problem, what is, is the light intensity on the screen even with the light output on the lowest setting. I was thinking of a neutral density filter but unsure if this will alter the colour balance.

I am reluctant to buy one yet because I will have to alter it to fit the lens and if it is damaged it will be wasted if it doesn't work

Any thoughts on how I may go about lowering the light output

Is there not a menu setting to turn the brightness down.

I have it already at it's lowest setting, so thats not an option.

It will have to be trimmed down to fit the front of the lens because the outer rim of the lens is just 'proud' of the outer case and there is not enough 'meat' to tape it onto the lens.

However, the info that the ND filter should not affect the colour makes it a bit easier. SRB may even have a ND gel which will make cutting down a bit easier.
