Saran wrap and the wrong lens hood could work, too, right?

There is a special look to an image made with a Holga lens in competent hands. It is much more then Saran wrap. If sharp only images regardless of content is your idea of image quality then you may not care for a Holga and the broader aspect of what can make a good image.

Either that or the "newcomer" doesn't know when his chain is being pulled. This is photography, not religion. True believers do ot have to walk in lockstep all the time. I was taking soft focus photos when you were in knee pants. I just bought two box cameras from the 1940s.

It is true that I may be guilty of not knowing when my chain is being pulled, for that I apologize. I do tend to get ruffled when folks can't see another point of view when it comes to what can be a good picture.
However, since I have been making pictures for 47 years, I doubt I was in knee pants when you were making soft focus pictures.
Thanks for the interaction,
Robert

agree

Well, newcomber, I agree with you that folks should not take a narrow view of what is "permissible" in an area that combines craft and art. But, in regard to your other point, it turns out I have an envelope from a camera store in Waterloo, Iowa which has on one side a hand-written reciept for the developing of some prints I had made. The date is July 1, 1947. The envelope advertises Ansco film, including Plenachrome, Superpan Press and Ansco Color Film. Fun.

Why not Buy a Real Holga?

But back to the original post, why buy a lens to put on your Canon for $30 when you can get the full experience for about the same price by buying a real Holga?

I completely agree that some people have produced some truly amazing work using Holga cameras, but that work relied at least a little bit on the qualities of the film and the qualities of the camera itself, light leaks and all.

At 30 bucks it's the price of so-so UV filter. Just think of it as a bulky lens cap that can actually form an image.
