Hi Guys,

This morning I've developed Ilford Delta 400 in Ilfotec DDX. I have used 1:4
diluted freshly mixed Adox fixer but it looks like despite this is very fresh fixer (stock made a month ago) the whole film has strong beige cast. I can see pictures but those do not have enough contrast and are barely visible. Second fixing didn't help and film keeps that beige cast.

Not sure what else could go wrong as I have used one-shot Ilfotec dev and as usual plain water as stop bath. First issue with this fixer and will change it into Ilford immediately. I hope that Ilford fixer will help but I can't be sure.

Two years ago I did 12 rolls HP5+/FP4+ in Adox Adofix P (A300) and never encountered any problem. I can consult my notes if you want, to get the specifics how I used it.
Is that the fixer you used?

Fixer can go off due to age.

I wonder which fixer he used, Adofix Plus or Adofix P. The former is a liquid which can be used diluted 1+4 (or more), the latter a powder pack only usable as stock solution.

I don't know of a fixer that you first mix a stock solution and then dilute it further... Have you mixed a powdered fixer and then diluted it further for use? If so, it's way, way, too weak to do any good. Maybe that's your problem.

FWIW, powdered fixers are mixed and used full strength. Liquid concentrate (usually rapid) fixers are diluted from the concentrate to working strength right before use. You can store a working-strength fixer for a while, but they'll go bad in a week to a month or two depending on storage conditions.

Best,

Doremus

It appears that this is the same magenta cast so many have reported for TMAX and Tri-X films. This is your fixer losing strength as you reuse it. As long as the cast is as modest as in these pics, you should be fine. If you want to get rid of this magenta cast, put your film in transparent/translucent sleeves and attach those at a window facing the sun, it should be gone within a few days.

There have been several threads about a pinkish cast on Ilford film. If it is really pinkish - and not beige - there is no problem. You can print these negs without any interference.

If you really want to remove the pinkish cast, there are some recommendations in these threads, you just have to search for them.
