I am unsure if I ever posted an intro back in the APUG days. And if I did, it's long down the page. So....here's a bit about me.
Fifty-something English mad scientist fuelled by tea. I started photography at the age of three when I picked up my dad's Zeiss-Ikon folder (his only camera at the time) and copied daddy....put the camera to my eye and hovered my finger over the shutter release. At which point my dad started shouting at me not to press the button..."it's not that simple, there's aperture and shutter speed and focus".......CLICK.....
And the photo came out near perfect - beginners luck. But because of that, instead of any sort of punishment my dad taught me how to use the camera properly. So toddler me was taking photos of my school friends, my teddy bears, the plants in the back garden and so on. Only decades later did I realise that I was *not* your average young child. By five I was soldering electric circuits. At 13 I built a 4 track recording studio in my bedroom. I was a child prodigy on the violin and considered a science genius. Of course, like most gifted kids, I eventually burned out.
But the photography remained. Other interests that make me who I am are most certainly polyamory, indeed I've run some of London's best attended polyamory social meets and conferences over the last decade (ask me if you're in any way curious but I won't ramble here). I love camping in tents, travel including photography. I still love music but the trauma around actually playing music has meant I've not appeared on stage since 1989 or 1990 and I very rarely play for my own enjoyment only. But I have a sizeable record collection and spend much of my weekend time at a small music club where I am also resident photographer (unpaid, except in the occasional free drink and I get invited to staff parties).
As for photography I mostly shoot 35mm B&W and colour but I also shoot 120, 127, super 8, std 8 and quarter plate.
