Dial Set Compur

I just got a Kodak Anastigmat No 33. It's marked No 33 - 322. Is 322 the serial number? How old would this lens be? The glass is extremely clean and clear but the shutter is seemingly badly trashed. One of the shutter blades was loose. I popped the back and the screw fell out so I re-installed the blade in its proper place without any problem. But, the works still seem to be thoroughly stuck - I wonder if someone tried to force something and broke it. The T/B/I dial is stuck as is the cocking lever. Before I just pop the back again and remove the shutter blades and turn it into a barell lens, does anyone know of a disassembly and repair guide for a dial set compur? I've been unable to find one on-line anywhere or through the forums here. If not, or if I can't fix it, am I better off turning it into a barell lens or is it worth the $$$ to send it off to Carol Miller?

With this type of shutter, you only cock it for "I" shutter speeds. They usually get broken when someone tries to cock it on B or T and forces the lever.

p.s. I use a Kodak anastigmat No. 31 with dial-set Compur a lot, and really like it, so if it were mine I'd consider seeing if it could be fixed.

They usually get broken when someone tries to cock it on B or T and forces the lever.

Any thoughts on whether it can be repaired once someone has done this? I have another one of these shutters with a 150mm Steinheil and early on I noticed that lever is unmovable when in T/B mode. I'm suspecting it takes a lot of force to move it and then does a lot of damage. Perhaps why it's now stuck in the position shown (and I don't want to force anything).

I actually bought this (knowing the shutter to be N/G) to use the T/B/I lever on the Steinheil's shutter, intending to convert it to a barrel lens. But, I can't resist the attempt to fix it.

I've never opened one of these, so I don't know, but I gather they're not too complicated. Since it's defunct at the moment anyway, you could take a look and see if it's just some part that's gotten bent out of shape, or if it's really broken broken.

I found David Richert's site last night but I suspect it doesn't go far enough, and I'm not sure I'd be able to tell if anything is snapped or bent. The fact that two screws (one from one of the shutter blades, no idea on the other) fell out when I removed the back is probably a bad sign.

I have an Anastigmat 203 in rim set Compur that's just back from a CLA with Carol Miller so if this lens is anything like that one, it's a keeper. Worst case, I'll use it with my Pacemaker Speed.

I used to have a booklet from Ed Romney on repair and maintenance of the Dial Set Compur, but lost it (along with several boxes of stuff) during a move about 12-13 years ago. I used that booklet back in the mid 1990's to work on all my Dial Set Compurs.

Ed Romney is deceased, but his family still seels camera repair books that he authored, so the Dial Set Compur repair booklet is probably still available from them.
