Diagnosis: What happened here ?

hi Everyone - I'd like your input on what's happening with the white discoloration on this B+W picture (right side) : http://www.flickr.com/photos/31923226@N07/7601289776/in/photostream

have you guys encountered something similar ? It does appear in some of the frames in the same roll. I took a couple of pictures of the same subject, without moving the tripod, so the sun's location is the same (upper left)

<> Paterson Universal development tank and plastic reel.

1. could it be my fingers touching the negative as roll the negative in the reel ?
2. could it be part of the mechanism in the camera on the receiving spool that is somehow scratching the negative ?

Since it's lighter in your picture, light is somehow added to the frame for a HIGHER density of developed silver in those areas.

I would suspect a light leak - especially if there's a consistent pattern frame to frame.

Have you checked the bellows on this one?

You could check for a light leak by developing an unexposed roll of film in your tank.

I touch my film during loading all the time and never had an issue. I'd definitely exclude this as source of your problems.

The blotch in your scan doesn't look like it is scratched. As Thomas already suggested: look for a light leak.

I found a similar problem working with my RB67, the light seals were old and on some frames where I had pulled or inserted the dark slide I'd get the stripe.

I'd suggest that your camera probably needs new seals.

Totally the darkslide seals.

Wind up your film in dim light and then tape it up. You should notice the white stripe go away.

You could send it in for CLA work and get new seals.
