I have been working for the past 12 months for a dear friend, selling off his entire custom lab’s worth of equipment. Now I am down to the DeVere items. I am looking to sell off the small, easy-to-ship items first. I do have a wall mount 504 and many Diachronic color heads, but those items are all hard to ship (so they’ll go at a later date when I have time to deal with them).

Here we have my 3rd DeVere 504 negative carrier / mask set – only this one is deluxe! This one is a sandwich type also, only it hinges all the way open, has masking blades, 4X5 AN glass and is 3 times as heavy (bonus!). Additionally, all but one sets of masks are still in their original boxes.

1. 4X5 PART# 1910
2. 6x9 PART# 1912
3. 6X7 PART# 1919
4. 6X6 PART# 1913
5. 4.5X6 PART# 1967 (rare)
6. 35mm PART# 1914 (1 of 2, this one is not filed at all)
7. 35mm Slide mounted transparency PART# 1957

All of the masks are in nearly mint shape; all of these are completely black anodized, no tape residue at all. DeVere really is the Rolls Royce of enlargers, their carriers are gorgeously made and a joy to use. I can send more photos of this set if you want toe see them.

Whole set, shipped to CONUS 48 States - $600 (PayPal gift or add 3% to the total please). Overseas I will cover the cost of CONUS shipping; you will be responsible for the difference.

I do nnot know on what premise you are basing your prices but I bought a De Vere 504 with Ilford 500 light source with all the light mixing boxes and the negative carrier for much less than you are asking for just the negative carrier.

David,

You obviously found a great deal! It's not often that a fine set of gear can be had for such a good price.
Thanks for sharing,

Jeromie

Folks - I'm basing my prices here on what the owner wants. He is the one who has set the prices - I'm trying to help him zero in on what things sell for. I have not seen this kind of carrier set on eBay or anywhere other than the Oddesy website - so I have nothing to base a price on other than a perception of rarity. Therefore I have nothing to go on regarding price. The other type of carrier (#1978) is much more common, and I see them on the web for sale all the time, however they seem to never sell (probably because the price is too high). I also have not seen complete sets together like this, only the masks are offered individually.

So, the delima, I want to help my friend get all that he can out of his gear. You all, my APUG brothers and sisters, want to get items for as cheaply as possible. I am the same way. Too many times in my past I've let things go for a song, only to find out that said item was actually worth much, much more. So - I try to price items based on their quality and availability. There are hundreds of people selling used Beseler 45 series parts (heads, chassis, negative carriers) - that drives the price way down. DeVere 504's are less common, and they are (in my eyes) - the very best made. It does happen often that folks like Dave and Polygoat can get great, complete systems for a song, I've had it happen to me too (got my Durst L184 for $150 complete with 14X14 cold light and plenty of carriers) - but that is not the norm. We all know that when you are looking for something, like a single part or a small item, not a whole system, the price is usually higher.

I will share the posted opinions on these prices with Gary (the owner) - and let him decide what to do.

I don't expect you to change your (client's?) pricing based on what I say, after all, I did get a very good deal. For comparison, it seems the market price here in AU is about $600 for a complete 504 system. A new carrier may well be worth what you're asking for it but my suspicion is that with the significant excess of enlargers on the market, someone would be likely to buy a whole new enlarger just to get the carrier. Or make one - it'd take me about a day with my mill (or $200 at a CNC contract-machining company like Ponoko) and there are a lot of DIY-capable people on these forums.

I haven't looked at their pricing on these particular parts, but KHB carries most of what you're selling. They and KEH might be a good reference.

PS: this carrier with masking blades is for a 504 Mk.I chassis. The Mk.II and Mk.III chassis have masking blades in the chassis, so the carriers for those have no blades.
