Development times needed for Delta 3200 and Ilfotec DD-X

Can anybody suggest development times for Delta3200 and Ilfotec DD-X 1:4?

I shot a couple rolls at EI 1600 and EI3200, respectively. In both cases, the light's contrast was low-to-moderate.

I've heard that the Ilford-published times for this film-developer combo are not terribly useful; hence my question.

As a side-note, wherever possible I tend to favor being conservative (i.e. on the short side) in my development times.

Have you tried at Ilford's published times? It would be a good guide to start with.

After all, why should they give you a time which is wrong?

I find that Ilford's time to give you really flat negs----so I have had good (actually really good) luck with developing at the next higher ISO rating. ie shoot@1600 Develop@3200, shoot@3200 Develop@6400................

Ilford times are usually very good but maybe D3200 is the exception. Most favour doing what 23mjm suggests. It's what I do and it's better that way for the kind of negs I want. In fact in my case there's room for developing a little longer still but if you go for the Ilford times for the next speed up then it is very unlikely that you will end up with over contrasty negs and blown highlights and you can take it from there. My experience of using this maxim of devloping for the next speed up and stating it works is confined to DDX but as that is your developer, all should be fine.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

The Delta 3200 I shot likely expired 1-3 years ago. That's going to mean less speed and higher base fog.

To compensate for that, should I increase or decrease the development time?
